Every Child Counts

Putting It All Together

...A Brief Overview

Overview of Presentation Media

This interactive website training program for the Volunteer Outreach Program of the Society for Prevention of Child Abuse is actively geared to be used in three separate presentation forms:

    1. Speaker-directed presentation in auditorium for large audience, using LCD projector
    2. Small group presentations using multimedia PC, for training purposes
    3. CD-ROM presentation for individual or corporate use
There are two parts to this presentation:
    1. The corporate presentation, either in person, or by personal use by Internet or CD-ROM. This includes the use of part #2 of the presentation, the interactive training program.
    2. The interactive training program. This is found on the company website, or on the provided CD-ROM.
The Corporate Presentation

The best example of this occurred on November 30, 1996, in the main auditorium of the Sparkman Center. The CEO of the Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Mr. Isaac Abraham, was the presenter of this Web-based training/educational program.

This was the schedule for the presentation:

    1. CEO greeting of community members -- educators, corporate representatives, political advisors, members of the community-at-large. There were approximately 250 people in attendance.
    2. Introduction to the scripted Internet program, brief explanation of techniques for starting the program on the Web. The actual presentation of the online program is approximately 20 minutes in length. This will be reviewed in the next part of this overview.
    3. Upon completion of the training program, the CEO extended an invitation for volunteers or interest groups.
    4. He led a brief, 5-minute Question & Answer period.
    5. Four smaller group presentations were offered in small conference rooms at Sparkman. Multimedia PCs were available for concentrated viewing of the interactive program. These groups were to meet for one-half hour.
    6. CEO invited groups to then return to main lobby for refreshment table and general gathering. This included a table sponsored by the S.P.C.A. that provided Volunteer Recruitment needs: forms, printed material, and CD-ROM packages containing the interactive program.
The Interactive Training Program

The interactive training program has these main features. As it is interactive, users may choose their own pathway through the presentation. The corporate presentation followed the linear path of subjects, as laid out by BoydZoo, in the programming of the software:

    1. Video introduction by S.P.C.A. CEO. All video shots will be shown via switcher-link to VCR at main corporate presentations. They are downloadable from the Internet in general use of the program via the Web.
    2. Voice-over by Adele Arakawa of Channel 9 News speaks concerning the severe need for financial donors and volunteers of all ages and many capacities.
    3. There are eleven (11) 30-second candid video shots available:
      • Children at Museum of Natural History, Denver
      • Children at City Park playground, Denver
      • Children in Sparkman classroom
      • Child closeup, succeeding in utilizing other S.P.C.A.-sponsored interactive Web programs
      • Older child, successful graduate of S.P.C.A. programs in the past
      • Parent of S.P.C.A. sponsored child
      • Teacher at Sparkman Center
      • Counselor at S.P.C.A.
      • Current volunteer for S.P.C.A.
      • Current monetary donor for S.P.C.A.
      • CEO invitation to volunteer

The training program has one music introduction, and all sound effects are ambient sounds found in candid video shots.

Each of the above eleven (11) sections will have not only the video spot, but accompanying written treatment, explaining the pertinent scene. The written portions will advise, inform, and invite the potential volunteer/donor to come into the group.

Each of the above eleven (11) sections will have stock photos, stock illustrations, and illustrations created by BoydZoo especially for this program.

A final selection in the interactive training program will be a communications form. This will allow the Internet user to submit his information by electronic form, or write a simple email to S.P.C.A.
